Niacinamide for Sensitive Skin: What Parents Should Know

If you’ve looked at skincare labels lately, you’ve probably noticed one ingredient popping up everywhere: niacinamide.

It’s in serums, moisturisers, cleansers and creams. But what actually is it, and why are we seeing it in so many skincare products?

As consumers, we’re constantly introduced to new ingredients and told why we should be using them. It can be hard to know what really matters, especially when you’re choosing skincare for sensitive skin.

When we were creating Zojee, we wanted to take a different approach.

We didn’t want to add an ingredient just because it was popular. We wanted to understand why it was there, what it could bring to the formula and how it worked alongside everything else.

That’s where niacinamide came in.

What is niacinamide?

Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3, also known as nicotinamide.

It’s been used in skincare for years and is known for being a versatile ingredient. It can help support the skin barrier, maintain moisture and support the overall health and appearance of the skin.

You may have noticed it more recently, but it’s certainly not a new ingredient.

Why is niacinamide everywhere?

Skincare trends come and go.

One ingredient can suddenly be everywhere, and a few months later, something else takes its place.

Niacinamide has stayed around because it has a useful role in skincare and can be used in different types of formulas, from cleansers to creams.

But for us, seeing an ingredient everywhere isn’t a reason to use it.

We want to know what it actually brings to the product.

That matters even more when you’re choosing skincare for sensitive skin. It’s easy to focus on one ingredient, but the way a product feels and works comes down to the formula as a whole.

Is niacinamide good for sensitive skin?

Niacinamide can be a really useful ingredient for sensitive skin, particularly when it’s thoughtfully formulated.

One of the reasons we like it is its role in supporting the skin barrier and helping maintain moisture. These are both important when you’re caring for skin that needs a little extra consideration.

That’s why we chose to include niacinamide in both our Head-to-Toe Wash and I-Got-You Cream.

But we didn’t stop at simply adding niacinamide.

We looked at how it would work with the rest of each formula and what role it could play alongside the other ingredients we had chosen.

Why we chose niacinamide for Zojee

This is the part that matters most to us.

When we were developing Zojee, we spent a lot of time thinking about why each ingredient was there.

We didn’t want a long ingredient list just for the sake of having one. We wanted every ingredient to have a purpose.

Niacinamide made sense to us because it supports the skin barrier and helps maintain moisture, which are both important when caring for sensitive skin.

In our Head-to-Toe Wash, niacinamide is part of a formula designed to cleanse while still caring for the skin.

In our I-Got-You Cream, it sits alongside ingredients chosen for moisturising and barrier care, including three ceramides, cholesterol, phytosphingosine and shea butter.

So while niacinamide is one part of the formula, it’s not working alone.

That’s actually what we love about formulation.

It’s about looking at how everything comes together and making sure each ingredient has a reason for being there.

We chose niacinamide because it made sense for what we wanted Zojee to be.

Not because it was trending. Not because we needed another ingredient to talk about.

Simply because we believed it had a meaningful role to play in caring for sensitive skin.

Looking beyond the ingredient list

When you’re choosing skincare, it can be tempting to look for one ingredient and think, “That’s what I need.”

But skincare isn’t quite that simple.

For us, it’s always been about the bigger picture.

What is each ingredient doing? How do they work together? And does the finished formula feel right for the skin it’s made for?

That’s how we approached Zojee from the very beginning.

Niacinamide is one small part of that story. Alongside postbiotics, ceramides and moisturising ingredients, it helps us create formulas that are thoughtful, purposeful and made with sensitive skin in mind.

Because every ingredient has its place.

And that’s exactly why we chose niacinamide for Zojee.
